Oct 9 and 10 – Eilat

Our hotel balcony overlooks the pools.  Or at least, it would if there weren't so many palm trees in the way.

Our first day here was the Jewish Sabbath.  The restaurant was closed and the hotel bar only served cold food…nothing hot.  We split a cheese and tomato sandwich and it was more than enough.

On Monday we were supposed to have a glass-bottom boat ride on the Red Sea to see the reefs.  Unfortunately, yet again, we didn’t have the info we needed to catch the tour.  We waited at the hotel for pickup but apparently this tour didn’t have pickup service.  We were supposed to get to the departure point on our own.  However, they didn’t provide us with the name of the company, the address of where we needed to be or a phone number to call the service.  And based on previous issues re lack of location and pickup info we assumed we would be picked up.  The dock was far enough away we would have required a taxi.  After some back and forth with the tour company we decided to forget the tour and just stay at the hotel.  We want a refund.

Mid-day we wandered over to the beach.  Lots of sun bathers and swimmers, para-surfers, and other water sport enthusiasts everywhere.  And there are a lot of divers as well.  We found a nice beachside café and had sandwiches for lunch.  The weather is sunny and a perfect temperature.  Balmy breezes and great views.  This is a nice place to relax.

We spent much of Monday and Tuesday in the room working on photos, future travel plans and voting.  We won’t be home for this year’s mid-term elections, so we were able to arrange to get electronic ballots.  Nice to know that we can still participate even when on the road.
